A.M. Performance Closes Succesful Rookie Season

Scotts Valley, California – September 22, 2011 – The A.M. Performance team closed out its first ever season in the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Championship last weekend at the Mid Ohio Sports Car Course on a high note with both the #04 and #05 cars achieving their best qualifying efforts of the year.

Making the weekend even more impressive for the team was Nissan GT Academy Champion, Bryan Heitkotter, who qualified for his first ever GRAND-AM event in the 12th position, giving the team its best starting spot of the year.  The accomplishment is a testament to the success of the GT Academy program in helping drivers make the transition from virtual racer to real racer.  To learn more about this exciting and innovative program you can watch the GT Academy reality show which airs Tuesdays at 10:00 PM on SPEED.

Up until the qualifying session at Mid Ohio the weekend had been the best so far for the A.M. Performance squad.  Both the #05 and the #04 cars achieved their best qualifying results of the year with 12th and 14th respectively at the hands of Heitkotter and Mike Sweeney.  The race unfortunately did not fare as well as both cars got collected in on-track accidents and were forced to retire early due to damage caused by the contacts.  This left Ryan Dalziel and Thomas Merrill sitting on the sidelines with their gear on without ever having the chance to drive their Nissan machines during the race.

The A.M. Performance squad is now back at their Scotts Valley, California headquarters where they will continue developing their Nissan NISMO 370Zs during the off season as they prepare to come back in 2012 for their first full season of competition where they expect to battle for the GS chamipionship.
